I love creating awareness around what the voice is capable of, how it works, and how to control it, thus nurturing a healthy, flexible and sustainable instrument, which is a  versatile and unique vehicle for self-expression.

Gillian Meadow, Director, The Joy of Singing

I began my singing career in the US where I performed in pop groups as well as musical productions Off-Broadway and on the Manhattan nightclub circuit. Here in Sydney I performed and recorded with vocal quintet The Fifth House and served as vocal producer including for the DVD of the World Peace Association theme song "If We Can Dream". In  my native US,  in  New York I studied acting at the Terry Shreiber Studio with Terry Schreiber, Music Theatre with Kenneth Macmillan and jazz dancing with Lynn Simonson and Ron Forella and completed Level 1 &2 Advanced, Jo Estill Voice Training Systems.  With 20 years experience performing and teaching in   New York,  a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre and Music, Florida International University in Miami and an MA in Applied Psychotherapy here in Sydney I am uniquely placed to create a learning atmosphere that is engaging, challenging, collaborative and super fun. As a qualified and experienced music teacher and director, I have coached many singers in the vocal/acting/movement skills required to succeed at musical auditions and helped them fine tune material for concerts, shows, bands and recordings.

All singers need a substantial toolkit with a broad range of techniques to nurture and sustain their voice. With this need in mind, my approach is innovative and interdisciplinary, drawing the best from various teaching models and global vocal practises that enhance the singers art (including Jo Estill Voice Training Systems, Bel Canto, Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement and Alexander Technique). I incorporate long loose alignment and a thorough understanding of the structure and function of the voice and of vocal technique.

I am passionate about helping professionals and developing singers achieve their musical goals. The Joy of Singing caters for beginner, intermediate and advanced students and professionals, offering voice training and performance opportunities for teenagers, and adults.

I am a skilled listener and I value your unique voice. I get excited about curating warm-ups, vocal and storytelling techniques designed to help you achieve your own unique and inspiring communication style!

I look forward to sharing The Joy of Singing with you.
